May 3, 2009 Baseball Daily Update - May 3 The 2009 regular season came to a dramatic end on Sunday as the
final two PBC series came to a close to decide the final seeds for
next weekend's PBC tournament.
Lander saw their tournament dreams come to an end as they fell
twice to Armstrong Atlantic State. The two teams first
finished a game that was suspended on Saturday and AASU came back
to win it 5-4. The Pirates then took game two 4-1.
Lander led 4-3 on Saturday night when rain caused the game to be
suspended. But AASU's John Roberts hit a two-run home run
when the two teams resumed play on Sunday and the Pirates held on
to win. In the second game on Sunday, Thomas Gray pitched 7.1
innings, allowing one earned run on six hits while walking none and
striking out five. Josh Wilson went 2-for-5 with a pair of
doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.
The first Lander loss gave Augusta State the eighth and final
tournament spot and the Jaguars celebrated by beating GCSU 9-8 in
Milledgeville to take two of three in the series. ASU scored
three runs in the top of the seventh to come from behind and win,
Alex Sickman hit a two-run home run in that seventh inning as he
went 3-for-5 with five RBIs. Jorge Virguez went 3-for-6 with
a home run and two RBIs while Shannon Wilkerson launched his
league-leading 21st homer of the year.

a three-game sweep of Flagler with a 4-1 win on Sunday. Tyler
Musselwhite pitched 7.2 innings, allowing one run on eight hits and
no walks while striking out 10. Brad Hall went 3-for-4 with
