Montevallo Signs Two Recruits During Early Signing Period
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo baseball head coach Chandler Rose announced the signing of two recruits for the 2013 season. Cody Hughes and Todd Thompson will join the Falcons in the Fall of 2012.
“I am thrilled that Cody and Todd have decided to join our program,” said Rose. “Both of these young men are exceptional people who will make an immediate impact in our program. I know they are proud to be Falcons and excited to continue to help build this program.”
Cody Hughes is a utility player and pitcher who will join the Falcons as a freshman. Hughes currently attends Central High School in Phenix City, Ala. Last season as a junior, he hit .407 with 10 doubles, five homeruns, a pair of triples, eight stolen bases and 41 RBI. On the mound he was 4-0 with a 2.32 ERA. This season on the football field, Hughes started at tight-end but also saw time at quarterback. He had six catches for 85 yards with two TDs, rushed for 100 yards on 14 carries with one TD and was 13-of-18 in pass attempts for 229 yards and three TDs. He also punts for Central and is averaging 38 yards per kick with a long of 51.
Todd Thompson is a centerfielder who will join the Falcons as a junior. Thompson helped lead Auburn High School to two 6A AHSAA State Baseball Titles his junior and senior year and currently attends Central Alabama C.C. Last season, he played in 47 games with a .372 batting average. Thompson had 10 doubles, drove in 33 runs, stole 14 bases and walked 26 times. His best game came against Wallace State-Dothan where he scored six runs while collecting six hits.
