FMU Baseball adds Pitt catcher

FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University baseball coach Art Inabinet has announced the addition of junior catcher Alex Griffith, a native of Bristol, Va., to the 2018 Patriot roster.

Griffith, 5-10 and 200 pounds, is a transfer from the University of Pittsburgh, where he played two years. This past season, he hit .137 in 25 games with six runs scored and four driven in.  In 2016 as a freshman, Griffith appeared in nine contests.

He is a product of Virginia High School, where he was a three-time first-team All-Conference selection.  He earned first-team All-State recognition as a senior and was part of two state title-winning squads in 2014 and 2015.

Inabinet said, "Alex is a very good defensive catcher that possesses the capability to control the running game. He earned New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star recognition this summer and will challenge for our starting catcher spot."

Griffith will join 16 previously announced newcomers to the FMU baseball program for 2018.
