Patriot Baseball signs righty pitcher

Francis Marion University baseball coach Art Inabinet has announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Austin Roseberry from Matthews, N.C.

Roseberry, 6-0 and 165 pounds, is a product of Weddington High School, where he played under the direction of coaches Travis Poole, Rick Hurni, and Andy Capone.  As the ace of the Warrior pitching staff, Roseberry recorded an impressive 8-1 record in 2017, totaling 73 strikeouts and had a microscopic earned run average of 0.83.  He also posted a pair of saves as Weddington recorded a 19-9 mark and advanced to the second round of the state playoffs.

He was named the pitcher of the year and a first-team All-Conference member as a senior, while garnering Weddington team MVP honors.

He played for the Showcase Baseball Academy's Canes Marucci squad and earned 2017 Atlantic Region honorable mention status from Perfect Game.

"Austin has really good command of three pitches," Inabinet said.  "He can fill up the strike zone and has a big upside as far as his future as a Patriot."

Roseberry will join 17 other newcomers set to join the FMU baseball program for 2018. The Patriots posted a 29-19 mark in 2017.
