Clayton's Williams, North Georgia's Carnes Named Basketball Players of the Week

 

Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Teondre Williams, Clayton State

Williams was solid againt tough opponents with 22.5 points per game in two contests last week.  He began with 26 points, hitting 9 of 15 field goals and four of six three-pointers, in a loss to West Georgia then came back with 19 points on 6-for-11 shooting against Wingate in a win.  The senior provided 37% of Clayton State's offense by himself in the two games, adding 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.  For the week, Williams shot 58% (15-24) from the field and 70% (7-10) from long range.  He also hit eight of nine free throw attempts.  Williams is currently fourth in the PBC in scoring and sixth in three-point field goal percentage.

Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Jaymee Carnes, North Georgia
Soph. • F • Gainesville, Ga.

Carnes set a school (NCAA-era) record with a 40-point, 18-rebound game against Brenau and averaged 31.5 points and 13.5 rebonds in two games over the weekend.  The sophomore hit 16 of 24 shots  (.667) and all eight free throws for her 40, the 10th 40-point game in PBC history and tied for ninth-highest all-time in a single game.  She also had nine blocks in that game, coming up one shy of a triple-double.  She followed that with 23 points and 10 boards against Tusculum, hitting 50% from the floor and 11 of 12 from the line.  For the week, she shot 64% from the field and  95% from the line.  Carnes has scored over 20 points in all five games this season and leads the PBC with 28.8 points per game.  She also leads the league in total blocks with 19 and is second in rebounding with 12.8 per game.
