Oct 24, 2007 Columbus State Wins Indian Bayou Classic; Lander's Wilson Wins Medal Columbus State shot a team 293 in the one and only round of the
rain-soaked Indian Bayou Classic hosted by the University of North
Alabama. The Cougars got their first team win of the fall while
Lander's Patrick Wilson won the individual title with his 69.
Columbus State got a solid round of 71 from freshman Michael Hicks
and posted three other solid scores to win the event by two shots
over Arkansas Tech. The win is the first of the year for the
Cougars in the fall portion of their schedule and is the second
straight win for CSU in this event.
Hicks covered the 7,078 yard Indian Bayou Golf and Country Club
layout in one under par on a day when rain fell intermittently
throughout the round. The 71 earned Hicks his first top five finish
as a collegiate player as he finished fourth in the individual
standings. JP van der Walt also secured a top 10 finish for CSU by
shooting a 73 to tie for ninth.
Andrew Georgiou fired a 74 and Kyle Albright a 75 to give the
Cougars a round of 293. Tyler Cashbaugh shot an 83 and did not
figure in the scoring.
For Lander, the individual win by Wilson was the first in his
collegiate career. Wilson was followed by teammates Charlie Hoyle
75, Billy Belair and Seb Brown 76 and Roberto Nasalli-Rocca 80. The
Bearcats fired a 296 to finish third, just one stroke behind
Arkansas Tech.
Clayton State finished 10th of the 17 teams in the Classic. Will
Wilcox fired a 71 for the Lakers while Jonathan Visconti shot a 73.
