Feb 6, 2008 AASU's Wolfe Wins Outback; Columbus State 2nd PANAMA CITY, FLA -- Junior Chris Wolfe sank a three-foot birdie
putt on the 18th hole of Tuesday's second round to capture the
Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate title by one stroke at the
Hombre Golf Club in Panama City, Fla. Columbus State finished
second as a team with PBC teams taking four of the top five
spots.
Wolfe shot a four-under-par 68 on Tuesday to edge Newberry's
Daniel Stanley by one shot, finishing the two-day tournament with a
five-under-par 139 total. Currently the top-ranked DII golfer and
the No. 12-ranked golfer overall in the Golfstat Cup rankings, the
title is Wolfe's third of the season and fifth of his career.
Columbus State got a nice round of 74 from walk-on freshman
Jeremy Britt and fired a second-round team total of 292 to finish
second. Andrew Georgiou carded a 74 for the Cougars to finish at
144, while JP van der Walt posted a 72, also finishing at 144. The
South African duo finished tied for ninth. Freshman Michael Hicks
followed Monday's 74 with a 72 to finish at 146, while Britt's
round followed Monday's 78. Hunter Harper struggled again on
Tuesday, following an 83 with a round of 88.
Lander finished third overall after holding the lead after day
one with a team 286. Cooper Tinsley shot an overall 68-75=143 to
lead the team. Tinsley, a junior from Greenwood, finished
fifth overall in the 16-team tournament.
Clayton State shot a 299 in Tuesday’s final round to
finish fourth overall. Individually for the Lakers, junior Will
Wilcox shot a 73 on Tuesday and finished the tournament tied for
fifth overall with a 1-over par 143. Wilcox finished four strokes
off the lead.
Georgia Southwestern also had a good showing, finishing in a tie
for 7th at 601 with Tusculum. Adam McKenney fired a one-over
72 in the final round to finish tied for 13th with a 147.
Jordan Britt finished in a tie for 22nd.
