Pirates Lead PBC Pack at Jay Jennison

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The No. 19-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State
University men's golf team shot rounds of 305 and 295 on Tuesday to
finish tied for fourth at the Jay Jennison Memorial, hosted by
Flagler College at the Palencia Club in St. Augustine, Fla.
Flagler finished sixth in the tournament with Lander coming in
10th, North Georgia 14th and Montevallo 15th.
Weather halted the second round on Monday with most teams having
completed nine holes. Teams resumed play at 8:45 a.m. after a fog
delay on Tuesday and the Pirates fired a 305, then followed that up
with a third-round 295 to finish 10 strokes behind team champion
Wilmington (881). Eckerd and Wingate tied for second after 890
totals, followed by the Pirates (891) and Valdosta State (891).
Senior Matt Motes led the Pirates after shooting a pair of
even-round 72s on Tuesday, finishing the tournament tied for sixth
with a one-over-par 217 total. Junior Jared Wagenaar carded rounds
of 80 and 72 to finish tied for 13th with a two-day 224 total,
while freshman Cory Griffin shot rounds of 78 and 79 to finish tied
for 17th with a two-day 225 total.
Junior Tyler Erickson carded rounds of 75 and 74 to finish tied for
21st with a 227 total and sophomore Travis Williamson, after being
disqualified in Monday's first round, shot rounds of 81 and 77 on
Tuesday.
Freshman Taylor Gove, playing as an individual, shot rounds of 77
and 82 to finish tied for 64th with a two-day 238 total.
Jeff Evanier of Eckerd earned medalist honors with a 5-under par
211. He held of Daniel Ott of Wilmington who carded a 3-under 213.
Flagler’s Joel Dahlenburg shot a record 67 in the second
round which helped him move to within a shot of the lead after 36
holes, but finished with a 75 in the final round and recorded a
2-under 214 and finished in third place. Brian Denton of Wingate
finished fourth with a 1-under 215 and Paul Tighe of Wilmington
rounded out the top five with an even par 216.
Christopher Waxberg finished in a tie for 17th place with a 9-over
225. Michael Boss carded a 1-over 227 and placed 21st. Andrew
McCracken tallied a 234 (+18) and finished in a tie for 47th
place.
Chipper Hughes led the individuals for Flagler with a 15-over 231.
He finished in a tie for 32nd place. Jonathan Folkner carded a
19-over 235 to place 53rd and Travis Ralph recorded a 239 (+23) and
finished in a tie for 66th place. Alex Bennett rounded out the
field for the saints with a 24-over 240 and placed 68th.
Lander's Brad Hannah finished eighth when he shot a 2-over-par 218
(73-70-75) to lead Lander. Tanner Robb finished tied for 13th with
224 (76-73-75), Chad Siefert tied for 60th with 237 (78-82-77),
Ollie Von Nairn tied for 68th with 240 (80-76-84), and Danny Clark
was 78th with 255 (84-86-85).
North Georgia's Aaron George shot a 74 in the first and last round
to lead the Saints with a 231 to tie for 32nd.
Montevallo's
Andrew Lowry fired an opening-round 74 and was the low finisher for
the Falcons in a tie for 42nd.
Georgia College Fourth, CSU Sixth at Sandestin
Results
DESTIN, Fla. – The No. 14 Georgia College golf program jumped
one spot to No. 4 on the final day of the Sandestin Collegiate
Championship, hosted by No. 7 University of West Florida.
The par-71, 6,875-yard Raven Golf Club posed as no match for the
Bobcats on the final day of the tournament, shooting a combined
three-over par (287). The Bobcats totaled 873 (+21) strokes for the
three round tournament, 10 strokes behind third place West Florida
and 14 strokes off the leader, No. 2 Lynn University. No. 16
Newberry College finished in second place with 862 strokes.
Junior Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw, Ga.) aided the Bobcats shooting a
71 on the final day for a total of 216, good for a tie for sixth
place. Rookie David Sullivan (Woodstock, Ga.) rebounded on his
final day, tying Garrett for the team best score, 71, finishing in
a tie for 33rd place with sophomore Gavin Harper (Twin City, Ga.)
at 224. Harper shot a 76 on the final day.
Senior Jeff Rives (Roswell, Ga.) finished in a tie for 16th,
shooting two-over on the final day, totaling 219 strokes.
Sophomore Bryan Fox (Roswell, Ga.) finished one-over par on the
final day, edging out teammates Harper and Sullivan with a final
score of 223, good for a tie in 31st place.
Columbus State barely missed climbing into the top five as a team
in the tournament, finishing only three strokes behind fifth-place
North Alabama.
CSU senior and All-American Rourke Van der Spuy, who posted the
lowest three-day total score by any CSU golfer, led the Cougars by
finishing in a tie for sixth at the tournament. Van der Spy opened
the tournament by shooting a four-under 67 and followed his opening
performance with rounds of 74 and 75. The senior finished the
tournament three-over par, only six strokes behind individual
tournament-winner, Lynn's Marcel Rozo , who shot three-under for
the tournament.
Justin Grice performed well for CSU at the tournament, finishing
tied for twelfth and just two shots behind Van der Spuy. Despite
ending with a higher score, Grice performed more consistently over
the course of the three rounds than his teammate, shooting rounds
of 73, 74 and 71.
Stephen Swanepoel and Steven Paine rounded out the team scoring for
the Cougars posting scores of 222 and 226 for the tournament,
respectively.
Daniel Glidewell also competed in the event for the Cougars and
improved in each round, posting scores of 84, 79 and 76,
consecutively.
Columbus State will hit links next at The Country Club of Columbus
for The Cougar Invitational Monday, October 3.
