GSW's Gibson, UNCP's Watkins Named PBC Golfers of the Week
Golfer of the Week: Craig Gibson, Georgia
Southwestern
Gibson won the loaded AFLAC/Cougar Invitational on Tuesday,
shooting rounds of 68-71-72 to finish two-under par. The
senior had finished in a tie for second in his last two events, but
broke through in Columbus and won the AFLAC for the second time in
the last three years. His efforts helped the Hurricanes to a
team victory in the 17-team tournament in which 15 of the teams
were either ranked or recieved votes in the latest GCAA Top
25. His three-round total of 211 was one stroke ahead of
teammate Christopher Hall and two head of another teammate, J.P.
Griffin and Lynn's Daniel Young. Gibson's 68 in the second
round is one of three shot in the PBC this season and is tied for
the fifth-lowest single round in the league. His score of 211
is the second-lowest 54-hole tournament by a player in the league
this year. Gibson is now third in the PBC with a 72.1 stroke
average.

Golfer of the Week: Dana Watkins, UNC Pembroke
Watkins wins her second straight weekly honor after winning her
second straight tournament; shooting a 148 to take the huge Myrtle
Beach Intercollegiate. The sophomore struggled in her opening
round with a 77, but shaved six strokes off of that for a
tournament-low 71 in the final round, finishing two strokes ahead
of Tusculum's Emee Herbert and Tarleton State's Jacquiline Lau for
medalist honors. Her one-under 71 was the only round fired in
the tournament at even par or lower and is the second-lowest in the
Peach Belt this season. Her efforts helped the 16th-ranked
Lady Braves to win their third straight tournament to begin the
season, but none larger than this with 21 teams and 111 players in
the field. Watkins continues to lead the PBC in stroke
average at 75.2, more than a stroke better than her nearest
competitor.
