UNC Pembroke Third, Armstrong Fifth at Loaded Bobcat Intercollegiate

EATONTON, GA – UNC Pembroke fired three consecutive rounds of 282 to finish in third place at the loaded 17-team Bobcat Intercollegiate, hosted by Georgia College.  The Braves were six over as a team for the tournament while Armstrong was fifth, five strokes back.  Host GC finished 10th with Georgia Southwestern 11th, Columbus State 12th, USC Aiken 14th, Clayton State 16th and Lander in 17th.  Barry won the team title with a seven-under-par 833.

One of 14 top-30 teams participating in the event, the Braves outdid last week's record three-round total by combining for a three-round 846 at Monday and Tuesday's event. The trio of 282's tied for the third-lowest rounds in the history of the program, while UNCP's three-day total bested last week's record score by 13 strokes. The Black & Gold was 13 strokes off the pace set by top-ranked Barry (274-280-279/833), while No. 2 Nova Southeastern (283-274-286/843) finished 10 strokes back in second place.

The Braves were three strokes better than fourth-ranked Lynn (288-279-282/849), while No. 20 Armstrong Atlantic (279-284-288/851) rounded out the top five. Six other Peach Belt Conference teams participated in the event as well.

All-American Jordan Walor (68-68-67/203) finished off a spectacular tournament with a 3-under-par 68 in Tuesday's final round to finish in second place on the individual leaderboard – just one stroke behind Lynn's Daniel Young. Scott Lambert shot an even-par 71 in the third round en route to finishing tied for 19th, while Jonathan McCurry carded a 71 as well to conclude the tournament in a tie for 23rd. Carson Lanier and Michael Mullman each shot a 2-over-par 73 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 39th and a tie for 58th, respectively.

Armstrong junior Jacob Tilton shot a second straight even-par 70 to finish the tournament tied for third individually with a five-under-par 205 total, his second straight Top 10 finish and his best career finish ever in a collegiate tournament. Sophomore Gus Wagoner also shot an even-par 70 on Tuesday to finish tied for 23rd individually with a four-over-par 214 total, while senior Matt Motes carded a 76 and junior Tyler Erickson shot a 72, each finishing tied for 51st individually with 221 totals.

Freshman Cory Griffin rounded out Armstrong's scoring on the day with an 80, finishing tied for 58th individually with a 223 total.

Georgia College’s Ryan Trocchio fired rounds of 69 and 68 in the final two to finish at 208, tied for 10th at two under.  Columbus State’s Justin Grice was also in that tie for 10th after a 68 in round two and a 70 in round three.  Georgia Southwestern’s Christopher Hall shot an opening-round 69 and finished in a tie for 16th.

USC Aiken’s Matt Atkins shot a 67 in the first round and finished in a tie for eighth with a three-under-par 207.  Clayton State’s Chris McManus shot back-to-back rounds of 73 to open the event while Lander’s Tanner Robb was the low Bearcat after shooting a 74 in round two.

Most of these teams will return to action next week in Greenwood, SC, for the Bearcat Invitational.
