Ten Peach Belt Men’s Golfers Named All-America Scholars
NORMAN, OK – Ten Peach Belt Conference men’s golfers were named among the 52 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars for the 2011-12 season as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Wednesday. Armstrong Atlantic State University is the only school in the nation to place three players on the team with Tyler Erickson, Matt Motes and Jacob Tilton all recognized. Georgia College’s Patrick Garrett and Taylor Smith were also named to the team along with UNC Pembroke’s Scott Lambert and Jordan Walor. Clayton State’s Clark Nelson, Lander’s Tanner Robb and USC Aiken’s Matt Atkins were the other PBC honorees.
The Peach Belt Conference dominated the nation with 10 selections to the team, more than any other Division II league. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) was second with eight golfers named to the team while the California Collegiate Athletic Association had six and the Gulf South and Sunshine State conferences had five each. PBC golfers claimed 19% of all available spots on the team.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2.
