Three PBC Men's Soccer Players Named Daktronics All-America Honorable Mention

Three Peach Belt Conference men’s soccer players have been named Daktronics All-America Honorable Mentions. Clayton State’s Jamal Geathers, USC Aiken’s Kofi Akyere and UNC Pembroke’s Miguel Ferrer were all chosen to the team, which is selected by Sports Information Directors nationwide.

Jamal Geathers was named the PBC Freshman of the Year in 2007 after leading the conference with 18 goals in his 20 games. The true freshman from Aiken, S.C., also led the league in points with 39 as Clayton State won the 2007 PBC Championship and the 2007 PBC Tournament while advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last four years. Geathers turned in two multi-goal games in 2007 with one hat trick and led the PBC with six game-winning goals.

A native of Union City, Ga., Akyere helped USCA to a 7-9-2 overall record in his first season as a Pacer, including a 4-2-0 mark in the Peach Belt that left the squad in a three-way tied for second. The junior scored 12 goals and tallied three assists for the year for a team-high 27 points. Akyere’s totals left him tied for second in the PBC in goals and third in points. He scored 43 percent of the Pacers’ 28 goals, and his 12 markers are the most by a USCA player in 10 years.

Ferrer, a native of Miami, Fla., scored 26 points on nine goals and a team-best eight assists in 2007 and turned in the program’s first hat trick in more than two years when he netted three goals in a 5-2 win at Barton. Ferrer amassed three of his assists in UNCP’s loss to Catawba on September 15, but logged two more assists in the Braves’ 3-2 victory over Francis Marion on the road. The junior finished the season third in the PBC in assists, sixth in points and tied for sixth in goals.
