Nov 4, 2008 PBC Soccer Tournament - 1st Round Recaps
The first round of the PBC Tournament is in the books and it was
a night to remember with games going down to the wire, and beyond.
#7 USC Aiken d. #2 Clayton State
2-2 (USCA wins in PKs 4-2)
The biggest upset of the day was turned in by USC Aiken who took
a 2-2 tie to a penalty kick shootout where they won it 4-2. Troy
Watson scored the first goal of the game for USC Aiken only to see
the Lakers come back and take the lead behind goals from Leighton
Fredericks and Angel Kalinov. But USCA responded with a goal
from John Lesko in the 50th minute to send the game into
overtime. After 20 scoreless minutes, the game went to
penalty kicks where USC Aiken took it 4-2, getting the winning
score from Troy Watson.

#4 North Georgia d. #5 UNC Pembroke
1-0
North Georgia advances to the semifinals after winning a
defensive war over UNC Pembroke 1-0. The two teams combined
to take 12 shots but it was one launched by Avram Allen in the 50th
minute that made the difference. Steven Smith made two saves
in goal for the Saints to get the shutout.

#3 Lander d. #6 Georgia
Southwestern 5-0
The Lander Bearcats return to the PBC semis after a 5-0 win over
visiting Georgia Southwestern. Craig Hughes had a hat trick
with three goals and was assited on all three by Martyn Bell.
Ivan Stoykov also added a pair of goals.
