YHC's season ends in quarterfinals with 2-1 loss to No. 24 Lynn

BOCA RATION, Fla. | Lynn University scored on its first two opportunities and held off a gallant comeback from Young Harris College for a 2-1 victory in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament Sunday (Nov. 19) at Bobby Campbell Stadium.

No. 24 Lynn improved to 14-3-2 and will now play Rockhurst University in the semifinals in Kansas City, Missouri, Nov. 30. The Mountain Lions, who have advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament for the second time in the past four seasons, ended their campaign at 14-4-2. Young Harris, which has qualified for the national tournament three of the last four seasons, defeated three nationally ranked teams - No. 22 Lenoir-Rhyne University, No. 7 Limestone College and No. 17 Lander University - to advance to the quarterfinal.

The Fighting Knights scored on their first two shots - Tomer Bitton in the 14th minute and Gustavo Bergman in the 32nd minute - to open up a 2-0 lead.

The Mountain Lions were the more aggressive team in the second half, forcing the action. YHC cut the deficit in half, when Mikie Rowe took a centering pass from Carlos Gomez and put it in the center of the net at the 80:36 mark. It was Rowe's 10th strike of 2017, tying him with Marco Micaletto for the team lead.

The teams each had eight shots in the match, while YHC held a 5-1 margin on corner kicks. Alex Iglesiashad two saves in goal for the Mountain Lions, while Alexander Roth had one for the Fighting Knights.
