Young Harris, Lander Earn NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament Berths

INDIANAPOLIS, IND – Young Harris College and Lander University were among the 38 teams that will compete for the national championship as the NCAA announced the men's soccer tournament field on Monday night.  Both schools will serve as hosts for this weekend's sub-regional, Young Harris is the overall #1 seed in the region with Lander at #2.

Young Harris College, which enters the tournament at 16-0-1, earned its fourth trip to the national tournament in the last five years as they earned the No. 1 seed in the Southeast region and will host the first two rounds of the tournament at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field this weekend. It is the second time - 2014 was the other - the Mountain Lions have earned the top seed in the region.
The other two teams competing in Young Harris bracket will be No. 4 seed Tusculum University and No. 5 seed Queens University of Charlotte.

Queens (N.C.) and Tusculum will face each other in the first round Friday (Nov. 9) at 7 p.m..The Pioneers (12-6-1), who earned the automatic bid from the South Atlantic Conference by defeating Anderson (S.C.) University 2-1 in the SAC Tournament championship, holds a 5-3-0 advantage in the all-time series that dates back to 2008 with the Royals (10-5-1). However, Queens (N.C.), which earned an at-large berth from the SAC, defeated Tusculum 3-2 Sept. 12 in Greeneville, Tennessee.

The winner of that first round match will face the Mountain Lions in the second round Sunday (Nov. 11) at 1 p.m. 

Young Harris, which are are No. 2 nationally, earned the automatic berth from the Peach Belt Conference as the Mountain Lions won their fourth PBC Tournament title as the won a 5-4 penalty shootout over No. 7 Lander University in the championship match. YHC, which also won its fourth PBC regular-season title in 2018,  holds a 2-0-2 lead in the  all-time series that dates back to 2010 with the Pioneers. The Mountain Lions defeated Tusculum 4-0 on the road Sept. 5.

Lander will host an NCAA Tournament match for the first time since 2013, as the Bearcats (14-1-3) will face the winner of third-seeded Limestone (13-3-1) and sixth-seeded Anderson (10-4-3). The Saints and Trojans will play Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Van Taylor Stadium, with the winner advance to face Lander at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. 

The Southeast Region champion will square off against the South Region winner in the tournament quarterfinals.

In the South, top-seeded Palm Beach Atlantic (18-1) will play fourth-seeded Lynn (11-4-1), while second-seeded Spring Hill (16-1) will face third-seeded Barry (13-3-1).

The Bearcats own a 6-8-6 all-time record in the NCAA tournament. Lander's stretch of four consecutive NCAA Tournament berths is the second-longest in Bearcat history behind a five-year run from 2005 to 2009.

Lander, which advanced to the Southeast Regional championship last season, is looking for its first region title since 2005.

Since 2015, the Bearcats are 54-11-8 (.795) overall and 27-3-2 (.875) in the Peach Belt Conference.
