Apr 15, 2008 PBC Releases Men's and Women's Tennis Tournament Brackets AUGUSTA, GA – With the final match of the regular season
complete, the Peach Belt Conference released the brackets for the
2008 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships which begin
on Friday in Savannah, Ga. The event is being hosted by Armstrong
Atlantic State University and will be played at the AASU Tennis
Complex with select matches also being played at the Savannah
Country Day School.
On the women’s side, host AASU is the #1 seed after winning
their fifth straight PBC regular-season championship. The Lady
Pirates will face the winner of the play-in match between #9 North
Georgia, making their first PBC Tournament appearance ever, and #8
Lander. AASU will play on Friday at 4:30.
Clayton State is the tournament’s #2 seed after going 8-1 in
conference play. The Lakers won a tiebreak over #3 Francis Marion
thanks to a higher regional ranking. Clayton State will take on the
winner of the #7 USC Aiken/#10 UNC Pembroke match on Friday at 6:30
p.m.
#3 Francis Marion will meet #6 Augusta State while #4 Columbus
State takes on #5 GCSU in the other first-round matches. The
women’s championship match is scheduled for Sunday, April 20,
at 10:00 am.
On the men’s side, Armstrong Atlantic State is the #1 team in
the nation and the #1 seed in the tournament after going undefeated
this season. The Pirates begin their quest for a fourth straight
tournament championship by taking on #8 North Georgia on Friday at
11:30 am.
Lander is the #2 seed after winning a tiebreak over #3 GCSU thanks
to a 5-4 win when the two met on March 16. Lander will take on #7
Augusta State while GCSU meets #6 USC Aiken.
USC Aiken was part of a big three-way tie for the 4, 5 and 6 seeds.
Francis Marion won the tiebreak due to their 5-4 win over Lander
earlier this year. Columbus State then took the #5 seed with their
head-to-head win over USC Aiken. #4 Francis Marion will meet #5
Columbus State in the first round. The men’s championship
match is scheduled for Sunday, April 20, at 2:00.
