Armstrong Atlantic State Captures Men's Tennis Tournament Championship

SAVANNAH, Ga. (April 20) – Host Armstrong Atlantic State captured a fourth straight tournament titleon Sunday at the 2008 Peach Belt Conference Tennis Championships. The top-ranked AASU men blanked third-seeded GCSU, 5-0.

The Pirate men (25-0) rolled through the tournament without dropping a point with three straight 5-0 wins. On Sunday, AASU picked up three doubles wins and two quick singles wins against the Bobcats (16-6). The doubles MVP team of Rafael Array and Tim Johannsen won a matchup of top 10-ranked duos with an 8-2 win over Erick Siqueira and Francis Yoshimoto at No. 1 doubles. Singles MVP Robert Jendelund then defeated Yoshimoto at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1, while Array clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Giovane Nucci at No. 4 singles. The tournament title gives the Pirates the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championships.

AASU will await the NCAA Championships announcement on Sunday, May 4, for the pairings for the regional.
