PBC Announces Men’s Tennis Preseason All-Conference Team

AUGUSTA, GA – Coming off a very successful 2018 season, the Peach Belt Conference has announced the 2019 men's tennis preseason All-Conference team.  Three of the six players named are from defending National Champion Columbus State with Lander adding two and Augusta one.

Ozan Cildir, Lander

  • A senior from Halmstad, Sweden
  • Currently ranked #17 in the nation in singles and #21 in doubles
  • A second-team All-Conference selection in singles in 2018
  • Was 15-3 in singles play in spring of 2018 including a 10-0 mark at #3 singles
  • Went 16-1 with Eirik Groner at #2 doubles, including 8-0 in conference matches, and was 20-5 overall in doubles play

Eirik Groner, Lander

  • A senior from Oslo, Norway
  • A first-team All-Conference selection in 2018 in singles
  • Currently ranked #24 in the nation in singles and #21 in doubles
  • Was 15-4 in singles play in 2018 including a 9-3 record at #1 and was 6-2 against conference opponents
  • Went 16-1 with Ozan Cildir in doubles play, including an 8-0 conference mark, and was 21-3 in doubles overall

Patrick Oliveira, Augusta

  • A senior from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • Named first-team All-Conference in singles for the second straight year in 2018
  • Currently ranked #30 in the nation in singles
  • Went 13-4 in singles in 2018, playing every match at #1 and was 6-3 in conference play
  • Went 13-7 in doubles play overall with four different partners, playing at all three doubles spots

Kiranpal Pannu, Columbus State

  • A senior from Wellington, New Zealand
  • 2018 PBC Player of the Year, 2016 PBC Freshman of the Year and three-time All-Conference selection; currently the #1-ranked singles player in NCAA Division II
  • Won the ITA Southeast Regional championship in singles this past fall and the ITA Cup to advance to the national championships
  • Qualified for the BB&T Atlanta Open in summer of 2018
  • Won the championship-clinching point in the 2018 NCAA finals as CSU won the national title for the first time in program history

Alavaro Regalado, Columbus State

  • A sophomore from Alicante, Spain
  • 2018 PBC Freshman of the Year and 2018 ITA National Rookie of the Year
  • Was 22-1 in singles play last spring including an 8-0 record against conference opponents, 4-0 against nationally-ranked opponents and was 19-1 at #3 singles
  • Currently ranked #25 in the nation in singles and #1 at doubles with Zach Whaanga
  • Won the fall ITA Cup in doubles with Whaanga after winning the ITA Southeast Regional championship

Zach Whaanga, Columbus State

  • A senior from Wellington, New Zealand
  • A PBC first-team All-Conference selection in singles and doubles in 2018
  • Ranked #1 in the nation in doubles with Regalado and #27 in the nation in singles
  • Was 17-4 in singles play last season with a 6-0 mark against conference opponents
  • Won the fall ITA Cup in doubles with Regalado after winning the ITA Southeast Regional championship
