Five PBC Men’s Tennis Teams Selected to NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, IND – Five Peach Belt Conference men's tennis teams will make a run at the national championship as the NCAA released the tournament field.  Defending national champion Columbus State and USC Aiken will serve as the two host sites of the NCAA Southeast Regional.  Flagler, Lander and North Georgia also received bids to the tournament.

Regional play will begin this Saturday, May 11, and conclude with region finals on Sunday, May 12.  The two winners from the southeast region will join 14 other regional site winners at the NCAA National Championships May 21-24 in Altamonte Springs, Fla.

The number one team in the nation, the Cougar men (23-2) are appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the 20th time overall and the ninth consecutive year under head coach Evan Isaacs. The Cougars won their first ever national championship last season, taking down Barry 5-4 in the final.

The Pacers (16-3) are the No. 2 seed in the region. The squad will host No. 3 Wingate (19-4), No. 6 Queens (14-5) and No. 7 North Georgia (15-7). It marks the first time USC Aiken has ever hosted a tennis regional. Head coach Steve Dahm's team finished second in the PBC and advanced to the PBC Championship before falling to No. 1 Columbus State.

Flagler, the No. 4 seed in the regional, will take on the No. 5 seed, Lander University, on Saturday at noon. The winner will advance to take on the winner of the other match, Limestone-Columbus State, on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Flagler (16-7) is making its sixth appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament, and its third in a row. The Saints are 5-5 all-time in regional play.

The Saints have faced the Bearcats 13 times since 2010, and Lander has won 12 matches in a row, including a 4-3 decision at Greenwood, South Carolina on March 17.

The Bearcats have reached the NCAA Tournament in every season under head coach Brett Simpson. Last season, Lander defeated Georgia College, 5-2, and Flagler, 5-1, before falling to Washburn in the round of 16. 

For the sixth time in program history, the No. 14 University of North Georgia men's tennis team clinched a bid to the NCAA Southeast Regional.North Georgia will battle No. 5 USC Aiken in the opening round Saturday morning.
