Montevallo's Walsh and Evans Named Runners of the Week

Men’s Runner of the Week

Zackery Walsh • Montevallo • Fr. • Trussville, Ala.

Walsh smashed the Montevello 8k school record with his time of 26:59 at the Queens Royal Cross Country Challenge on Friday. He became the first Falcon ever to break 27 minutes in an 8k event, beating the previous school record by over 30 seconds and beating his personal best by 35 seconds. The freshman finished 71st in the huge 19-team, 174-runner event.

Women's Runner of the Week

Haley Evans • Montevallo • Jr. • Fairhope, Alaska

Evans smashed the school record for a 5k run with her time of 18:54 at the Queens Unveristy Royal Cross Country Challenge on Friday. The junior became the first UM runner ever to break the 19-minute barrier and beat her own personal best by over 20 seconds. Evans finished 36th in the 21-team, 200-runner event, leading UM to a 10th-place finish amid many Divison I programs. Her 18:54 is the fastest 5k run in the Peach Belt this season.
