Kipkoech topped his personal best time by nearly 50 seconds in easily out-distancing the rest of the 91-man field and led the UNC Pembroke men's cross country team to top billing at the Florida State Invitational. The freshman from Eldoret, Kenya, matched former UNCP all-American and Olympian Pardon Ndhlovu for the fifth-fastest 8K time in school history and bettered second-place finisher Chris Haynes (unattached) by nearly 24 seconds with his time of 24:25.6. He finished 10 seconds behind Florida A&M's David Too in the overall standings, but was better than 46 other NCAA Division I entries at the event. His time is the fastest 8k run in the Peach Belt so far this season by 45 seconds.
