Jun 4, 2007 UNCP Softball Adds Queens Transfer PEMBROKE, N.C. -- UNC Pembroke head coach Steve Johnson has
announced the addition of Sam King, formerly of Queens (N.C.), to
the Braves’ softball program for the 2007-08 academic
year.
“We are really excited about Sam joining our team,”
Johnson said. “She is a true outfielder that can cover a lot
of ground out there. Offensively she is a multi tool hitter that
can slap, bunt, hit from the left and hit from the right, plus, she
possesses great speed and will be a threat on the base
paths.”
King, a native of Manchester, Mich., started five games for the
Royals before having her freshman campaign ended due to injury. She
batted .333 and was 3-for-4 in stolen bases with an .857 fielding
percentage.
A graduate of Lecanto High School in Lecanto, Fla., King earned
four letters in softball during her high school career while also
earning three letters in soccer, two letters in diving, and one
letter each in basketball, track and volleyball.
During her senior season at LHS, she tallied a .456 batting average
and led her team in runs scored, hits, triples, home runs, stolen
bases and slugging percentage. King was named all-county and
all-conference her final two seasons while being named the county
softball player of the year her senior season.
The daughter of Michelle and Robert King, Sam plans to major in
social work at UNCP.
