Mar 14, 2010 Softball Daily Update - March 14 Augusta State and North Georgia continued to match each other
game-for-game atop the PBC standings on Sunday while in
non-conference play, league teams continued to roll.
Top-ranked North Georgia got a pair of shutouts over Flagler 4-0
and 6-0. Sarah Phillips got the win in the circle in both
games, holidng the Saints to one hit in the opener while striking
out 12 and then allowing only two hits and striking out 12 in the
nightcap.
ASU swept Columbus State 3-0 and 9-4. Sara DeMuth pitched
the opener, going the distance and allowing only five hits and one
walk while striking out 14. Kayla Hicks went 2-for-3 with a
home run and two RBIs. In game two, Leann Barber went 3-for-4
with a run scored and two RBIs.
Armstrong Atlantic State finished the Patriot Invitational with
a perfect 5-0 mark following a 6-2 win over Saint Leo and a 2-1
mark over Alderson-Broaddus. In the first game, Amber Janus
went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Baillie Temples went
2-for-2 with an RBI. Temples struck against against
Alderson-Broaddus as she homered in the fourth innning to break a
1-1 tie.
Lander dropped their first game to #10 Wingate 8-0, but came
back to win game two 5-3. Ashley Proctor delivered the
game-winning hit with a two-run single in the bottom of the
sixth. Hayley Leissner held Wingate to seven hits in her
complete-game effort, allowing three runs and striking out three.
UNC Pembroke finished play at the Patriot Invitational with a
win over Queens and a loss to Lenoir-Rhyne. Jelena Shaw
scored the first two runs of the game while Loren Bartz drove in
the final two.
