CSU Googe and Russell, FMU's Carnes Named Softball Players of the Week
Player of the Week
Casey Googe, Columbus State

Googe demonstrated some power last week with five home runs, including a grand slam, in seven games. She hit .480 with a 1.080 slugging percentage and 12 RBIs. She blasted two homers, including a grand slam, in an 11-0 win over Glenville State, driving in six. Those were the first in a three-game home run strak a she had round-trippers against Young Harris and Lincoln Memorial. She had five straight multi-hit games at the Mid-South Classic, all CSU wins, driving in runs in four of them. Googe leads the PBC with nine home runs this season and is third in the league in RBIs.
Pitcher of the Week
Mollie Russell, Columbus State

Russell went 2-1 in four starts last week with a no-hitter against #22 Lenoir-Rhyne. The junior issued a walk in the fourth innings that was LR's only base runner and broke up a perfect game. She struck out the final seven batters in a row. Prior to that, she tossed a complete-game two-hitter against Lincoln Memorial, striking out eight. For the week, the junior struck out 23 in 24 innings of work with four earned runs allowed and six walks. She is second in the PBC in ERA by one-hundreth of a percenage point and third in strikeouts.
Freshman of the Week
Katie Carnes, Francis Marion
Fr. • P/UT • Pageland, S.C.
Carnes picked up two wins in her two appearances, pitching nine total innings and allowing only one earned run. She pitched four innings against West Alabama, giving up three hits and striking out three. She then pitched five innings against Brevard, allowing only one hit and striking out four. She also had four hits in six at-bats at the plate, driving in two runs. The wins in the circle moved her record to 5-2 on the year and 11th in the PBC in wins. She is also 13th in the league in strikeouts.
