Ferguson, Kornegay and Campbell Named Softball Players of the Week

Player of the Week

Olivia Ferguson, Francis Marion
Jr. • C/OF • Roanoke, Va.

Ferguson supplied some power as Francis Marion swept a conference doubleheader from UNC Pembroke last week.  The junior hit .400 in the series with a two-run home run in the opener and two more RBIs in the nightcap.  She slugged 1.000 for the week, scoring three runs.  She has now hit safely in four straight games, all Patriot wins and is hitting over .300 on the season with a .461 slugging percentage.

Pitcher of the Week

India Kornegay, USC Aiken
Soph. • RHP • Eufaula, Ala.

Kornegay was nearly unhittable last week as she tossed two complete games allowing just one unearned run and striking out 26.  She opened with a two-hit shutout of Carson-Newman, striking out 12, then went a full eight innings in a 2-1 win over Pfeiffer, allowing two hits and striking out 14.  She is second in the PBC in total strikeouts and strikeouts per seven innings.  She is also fourth in opponent batting average, sixth in earned run average and second with 18 wins on the year.

Freshman of the Week

Caitlin Campbell, Armstrong
Fr. • LHP • Huntersville, N.C.

Campbell hurled a two-hit shutout, striking out five, in No. 7 Armstrong's 1-0 win at Flagler on Saturday.  She did not allow a runner to reach second base after the first inning and faced just three over the minimum for her third shutout of the year and first in PBC play.  She gave up no walks in the game and set down the side in order four times, including the seventh inning.  The win was her 17th of the year, third-most in the Peach Belt.  She is also eighth in the league in innings and 17th in strikeouts.
