Flagler Triumphs Over No. 11 North Georgia, 4-1 Advance to World Series

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Flagler College split a doubleheader with No. 11 (NFCA Division II Top 25) North Georgia College & State University, losing the first game 3-0 and winning  the final game 4-1 in eight innings to win the NCAA Division II Southeast Super Regional Saturday at the Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium in Dahlonega. Flagler advances to the NCAA Division II Softball National Championships May 16-19 in Louisville, Ky.

Flagler is now 39-18 overall while North Georgia ends its season 49-9.

In the opener, Katherine Martin hit an RBI single in sixth inning to break a scoreless tie and that’s all North Georgia would need. Kayla Minger added an RBI single two batters later for insurance and Pilar Harden belted a solo home run in the seventh.

Melissa Dickie (21-0) tossed a complete game three-hit shutout for North Georgia. She fanned only three, but retired nine on ground outs and nine more on fly outs.

Harden, Martin and Callie Fernandez each had two hits for North Georgia.

Donna Munafo (20-6) went the distance and scattered eight hits and allowed two earned runs. She fanned four.

Breezy Collings, Alona Personius and Lauren Bessent each hit singles for Flagler.
