UNC Pembroke Inks Region Transfer To 2013 Squad

PEMBROKE – Transfer Shelby Holland will be joining the UNCP Softball team after a two-year stint at region rival Newberry to continue her athletic and academic career with the Lady Braves announced by head coach Lacinda Melanson.

Holland, a Charlotte native, held the highest batting average with a .405 and a .514 slugging percentage. She saw 74 at bats, nine runs, 30 hits, six doubles and one triple, as well as 14 RBI, a .443 on-base percentage and a .938 fielding percentage as an infielder. During her time with the Wolves, she played in 42 games with 27 starts and totaled 41 total bases.

She was a member of the West Mecklenburg Hawks for coach Harman and was a letterman in volleyball and softball. As a senior, she had a .350 batting average, .400 on-base percentage and earned the silver glove. She helped her team make it to the second round of the playoffs in her junior campaign where she garnered the golden glove. She was a two-year captain, all-conference and second-team all-Mecklenburg member.

The daughter of her late father and Debra Holland has an older sister, Nicole, and was a two-year captain and MVP of the volleyball team.

"We are fortunate to have Shelby joining our program. She comes to our program with great collegiate experience already, and has shown to be successful while playing against quality NCAA Division II teams in her conference and region. She is a competitor and did very well offensively this past season, and we feel confident Shelby will be an impact player and bring additional strength to our line-up," Melanson said.
