2008 Volleyball Team Notes (Through Games of Nov. 1)

  Armstrong Atlantic State (20-6, 5-2) -- The Pirates picked up a non-conference win over Valdosta State on Friday in their only action of the week ... AASU defeated the Blazers in three games despite hitting just .144 in the match ... Senior Rindy Vidovich moved past Darcey Krug (888) into eighth all-time on the AASU career kills list with her six against the Blazers on Friday. She now has 893 for her career ... Sophomore Hannah Segebart's 29 assists moved her past Christine Ladewski (1715) into fourth all-time in AASU history in assists ... AASU wraps up the regular season with three PBC matches thsi week, visiting Augusta State on Wednesday, then taking on Lander and USC Aiken on Friday and Saturday. If the Pirates win all three matches, they will capture their third PBC regular season championship out of the last four seasons.
  Augusta State (13-18, 2-5) -- Augusta State defeated Paine 3-0 Thursday night at Christenberry Fieldhouse in non-conference action... Sophomore Dianna Meyer paced the Jaguars with 11 kills and a .500 hitting percentage... Also aiding in the win for the Jags was junior Jessica Howard, who posted 10 kills and had seven block solos... Freshman Ashley Zappitell tallied 19 assists, and freshman Kristania Crawford added 10 assists... The Jaguars(13-18,2-5) return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 5, when they host Armstrong Atlantic State in a Peach Belt Conference match in Christenberry Fieldhouse... First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
  Francis Marion (20-7, 6-3) -- FMU split two PBC road matches last week and is a half-game out of first place. FMU has won 14 of its last 17 matches and is 13-1 at home this year. The 20 wins surpass last year’s total of 13, and marks the program’s fourth 20-win season in the past five years.....FMU has held its opponents to a .142 attack percentage in 2008....Freshmen have accounted for 53.4% of the team’s kills this season. Four freshmen are in the Patriots’ regular rotation....Freshman Ashlyn Underhill 3.00 kills per game last week....Senior Jessica Lombardi upped her career total to 1,240 kills and moved into 13th place on the all-time PBC list. She also has 966 career digs....Only 49 times in its last 128 matches has FMU lost the opening game, but it happened twice last week....Senior setter Jenna Kaiser raised her career total to 3,807 assists and moved into 9th place on the PBC all-time list. She also has 1,060 career digs. She has only two errors in her last 253 serve attempts, and a season serve percentage of .986....Libero Kelsie Deaton averaged 3.86 digs per game last week. Deaton has 10 career matches of 20+ dig....Over the past four years, FMU is 59-22 in matches decided in three games....The Sept. 26 victory over ASU was head coach Paul MacDonald’s 100th coaching win. His career mark is 108-85 in six seasons.
  Lander (20-9, 6-2) -- The Lander Bearcats moved to the top of the Peach Belt Conference after winning three straight league games last week. The Bearcats kicked off the week with a thrilling five-set victory over USC Aiken after being down 2-0. Lander then defeated Francis Marion and UNC Pembroke in 3-0 matches. Coach Carla Decker earned her 100th career victory in the win against USCA. Lander has now won six of its last seven games. Magi Nottingham posted two double-doubles en route to averaging 10.1 kills and 15 digs per match, while Candace LaRocca also had a pair of double-doubles as she averaged 42.3 assists and 11.6 digs per match.
  UNC Pembroke (12-16, 2-7) -- UNCP snapped a five-match losing skid against USC Aiken on Friday night defeating the Pacers 3-0 before falling to Lander on Saturday 3-0 to finish the week with a record of 1-1. The Braves are now 2-7 in PBC matches, 6-5 in home matches and 2-6 in away matches. Freshman Allie Schneider leads the team in kills with 266 on the season while sophomore Rachel Young leads the team in hitting percentage with a mark of .260. Andrea Laza leads the PBC in digs per set with a 5.26 average.
  USC Aiken (15-12, 3-5) -- The Lady Pacers dropped three conference games last week and saw their slide reach four games overall. USCA was up 2-0 at Lander after a big 27-25 win in the second set only to see the Bearcats bounce back with three straight sets to win it 3-2. Stefanie Durham had 12 kills and 24 digs while Megan Disney also had 12 kills with 11 digs. That loss may have set a tone as the Lady Pacers then dropped a 3-0 decision to UNC Pembroke and a 3-1 match to Francis Marion over the weekend, both at home. With those losses, USCA cannot move above a #4 seed for the upcoming PBC Tournament, but are only a 1/2 game ahead of Augusta State in the standings. The Lady Pacers play their final two conference games this week at ASU and at Armstrong Atlantic State.
