INDIANAPOLIS, IND – Flagler College and Armstrong Atlantic
State University, just hours after meeting in the PBC Tournament
championship game, learned they have advanced to the NCAA
Tournament as the 64-team field was announced from the national
headquarters. Top-seeded Wingate will serve as the tournament host
Nov. 20-22 in Wingate, N.C.
Flagler is the #2 seed and received the PBC’s automatic bid
after winning the PBC Tournament on Sunday afternoon in Aiken. The
Saints, playing in their first year with the PBC and the southeast
region, will reach the NCAA tournament for the first time in school
history. Flagler won the PBC regular-season title as well and bring
a 25-game winning streak into the regional tournament, the
third-longest winning streak in PBC history.
Now 32-8 on the season, second-seeded Flagler will face
seventh-seeded Lees-McRae in the opening round.
Armstrong Atlantic State returns to the NCAA Tournament and will
play on the same court on which they won the 2008 Southeast
Regional and became the first PBC team to advance to the Elite
Eight. The Pirates will be making their sixth NCAA Tournament
appearance with a 26-9 overall record and wins in 13 of their last
15 games.
Armstrong Atlantic State will be the third seed in the NCAA
regional and face sixth-seeded Lincoln Memorial in the first
round.
The 64-team field is comprised of eight regional sites of eight
teams each. The winner of each regional competition will meet for
the national finals Dec. 3-5 at a site to be determined.
