Dec 10, 2009 Meyer signs with Flagler volleyball ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Sophie Meyer (Orlando, Fla./The
Geneva School) has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to
attend Flagler College and play volleyball as announced by Flagler
head coach Taylor Mott Wednesday afternoon.
“Sophie is a versatile and athletic player,” said Mott.
“She has the ability to play right side, middle blocker or
outside hitter and will contend for playing time in the
fall.”
Meyer is a 5-foot-10 right side for the Lady Knights. She helped
lead The Geneva School to the Class 1A regional semifinals this
year. Meyer recorded 456 kills and 68 blocks. She set the school
record for kills and blocks. As a junior she helped led the team to
a district title and a regional final appearance. Meyer was the
team’s Offensive Player of the Year as she led the Lady
Knights with 408 kills, 86 blocks and hit .367.
Flagler is coming off a record season where it won 36 matches and
had a 29-match winning streak. The Saints also won the Peach Belt
Conference regular season and post-season titles as well as the
NCAA Division II Southeast Regional and finished third at the NCAA
Division II National Tournament in St. Paul, Minn. Flagler will
lose three players to graduation or have exhausted their
eligibility.
