Driskell Earns Daktronics All-America Honors MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- A dominant performer all season long,
Georgia College & State University junior forward Marquita
Driskell (Milledgeville, Ga./Baldwin/Univ. of Georgia) was named to
the third team of Daktronics Women’s Basketball All-America,
as selected by sports information directors throughout the
nation.
The 6-foot-2 forward becomes the first All-American in Lady Bobcat
history.
Driskell averaged a double-double with 19.5 points and 11.4
rebounds per contest this season for the Lady Bobcats. The forward
scored in double figures in all but three contests, including 14
20-point games and a career-best 35 twice, including in the NCAA
South Atlantic Regional Semifinal win over No. 19 North Carolina
Central University.
She finished with 21 double-doubles, including both games of the
Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament and all three regional
tournament contests, earning her a spot on the all-tournament teams
for both. She also earned a slot on the All-PBC team as well as a
pair of PBC Player of the Week honors.
This year, she set a pair of GCSU season records, pulling down 276
defensive rebounds and swatting 83 shots. She ranks third all-time
with 91 blocked shots in just over a year of competition at GCSU.
Her 19.5 points per game ranked fourth for GCSU single-season
marks, while her 11.4 rebounds average placed second.
Driskell was the lone Peach Belt selection to any of the three
All-America squads. St. Cloud State University’s Erica
Quigley earned Player of the Year honors, and was joined by West
Texas A&M’s Emily Brister, Leora Juster from UC-San
Diego, Glenville State’s Rachel Redick and Darcie Schmidt
from Lewis on the first team. Quigley averaged 24.5 points and 11.6
rebounds per game for the Huskies this season.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world
leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for
virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is
voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors
of America (CoSIDA).
