Feb 27, 2007 PBC Announces Women's Basketball All-Conference Team AUGUSTA, Ga.--
The Peach Belt Conference has announced the 12-member 2006-07
women’s All-Conference basketball team. Lander’s Tiara
Good was named the PBC Player of the Year while North
Georgia’s Porsha White is the Freshman of the Year. Clayton
State head coach Dennis Cox was voted the league’s Coach of
the Year.
Good becomes the first Lander Bearcat to ever be named the
Player of the Year. A junior from Jonesville, S.C., she stepped to
the forefront after the season-ending injury to teammate LaShonda
Chiles to lead the PBC in scoring with 21.7 ppg, good enough to be
ranked ninth nationally. A two-time PBC Player of the Week this
season, Good also leads the PBC, and is ranked eighth nationally,
with 6.4 assists per game. A transfer from Wake Forest, she has
scored 30 or more points twice this season and has seven
double-doubles, three with double-digit assists.
Porsha White is North Georgia’s second straight Freshman
of the Year honoree, in only their second year in the PBC, joining
teammate Syretha Marble who was honored in 2006. White earned a
spot on the Lady Saint’s starting rotation, averaging 12.2
points and 5.3 rebounds per game as she played in all 26 contests.
She led her team in scoring five times including a season-best 28
points against USC Upstate.
Dennis Cox earns his first PBC Coach of the Year award after
leading the Clayton State Lakers to their second PBC Championship
in the last three years. In his third season at the school, Cox has
compiled a 72-18 record and led the Lakers to the 2005 PBC
Tournament title. This season, the Lakers are 22-5 overall, 12-4 in
league play and have been the only conference team to crack the top
25, reaching as high as 10th in mid-January.
The 2006-07 All-Conference team is listed below as voted on by
the league’s 12 head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to
vote for their own players. All winners will be presented the
plaques before their opening game of the 2007 Tournament. North
Georgia award winners will be recognized during the tournament at a
time to be announced.
