Jan 30, 2008 PBC Dominates First NCAA Women's Basketball Region Poll The Peach Belt Conference placed seven teams on the first NCAA
South Atlantic Region poll, which was released on Wednesday.
Francis Marion, who re-entered the national top 25 this week, is
the top-ranked team in the region, just ahead of second-place
Clayton State.
North Georgia, in their first full season of NCAA championships
eligibility, is third in the poll while Columbus State is fifth,
Lander sixth, Augusta State seventh and USC Aiken eighth.
This means that if the NCAA Regional tournament were to begin
today, six PBC teams would compete, the most any single conference
can have with at least two spots reserved for the automatic
qualifiers from the CIAA and South Atlantic Conference.
Only Wingate from the SAC has one of the top spots, in fourth
place. Tusculum is in ninth while the CIAA's Johnson C. Smith
is 10th.
The NCAA South Atlantic Regional Advisory Committee will issue a
new poll each week until the NCAA Selections are made on Sunday,
March 9.
The poll will be updated weekly on the women's basketball poll
page, which can be seen here.
