GC Women’s Hoops Adds Strong Rock’s Hughes

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College women’s basketball team and head coach Maurice Smith announced the addition of Ansley Hughes Friday.

“Ansley will be a tremendous asset as a student-athlete,” said Smith. “She has a huge upside and will bring a strong work ethic and great attiude to our program.”

A native of Stockbridge, Ga., Godwin played under head coach A.C. McCullers at Strong Rock Christian High. She earned three All-Region honors in her career. She tallied 22 double-doubles her senior season, averaging 15 points and 11.2 rebounds per contest. She added four blocks per game and 70 percent shooting from the free-throw line. Hughes was All-County First Team and All-Southern Crescent First Team as a senior. The Patriots were state runners-up in her sophomore season.

The Bobcats finished 22-7 with an 11-6 PBC mark. GC won the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007. The Bobcats had two All-PBC selections, including Daktronics Third Team All-American Chimere Jordan (2009-11).
