Lander's Tolbert, UNCP's Kemp Named Basketball Players of the Week

Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Tolbert was on fire in two Bearcat games last week, scoring 30 points per game while shooting 62% from the floor.  The senior opened up with 33 points on 11 of 18 shooting in a win at Armstrong, scoring five points and grabbing a steal in the last 11 seconds in a 76-73 win.  He came back with 27 points in a loss at #23 USC Aiken, hitting 10 of 16 shots from the floor.  For the week, Tolbert averaged 6.5 three-pointers per game, hitting 54% of them, and shot 71% from the line.  He added 3.5 steals and 2.5 rebounds per game.  He now leads the PBC and is ranked fifth in the nation in scoring with 22.2 points per game.  He is also ninth in the league  in rebounding, fourth in steals and eight in blocks.

Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Jazmine Kemp, UNC Pembroke

Kemp was rock-solid through three Brave wins last week, averaging 15.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.  She opened with 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds against Francis Marion and then had 14 points with seven boards and seven assists against Armstrong.  After spending 39 minutes on the court on Saturday, she returned 24 hours later to score 16 with seven rebounds in a win over Flagler.  Kemp shot 53% (16-30) from the field and 70% from the line and 12 of her 27 total boards were on the offensive glass.  She added 4.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.  The freshman is ranked in the PBC's top 15 in field goal percentage, rebounding and free throw percentage.
