Oct 30, 2007 Columbus State Advances with 7-0 Win Over USC Aiken Columbus, GA - Columbus State's Sarah Hawkins took a Lindsey
Morgan pass and beat the USC Aiken defense for a goal just over 14
minutes into play Tuesday night, and the Lady Cougars never looked
back from there, taking a 7-0 win over USC Aiken in the opening
round of the 2007 Peach Belt Conference Tournament. CSU moves to
14-3-1 on the year with the win - its seventh consecutive win and
sixth straight shutout.
CSU got the first of two goals from Stephanie Parrish at the 28:29
mark of the first half to make it 2-0. Jill Walthall and Leslie
Matthews each assisted on the score - the team-best 11th of the
season for Parrish. Kate Walton got the final score of the period
for the Lady Cougars as she took a perfect feed from Gina Goforth
and poked a shot past Pacers keeper Nicole Westphal for a 3-0
lead.
Hannah Ospina collected her 10th goal of the season just under
eight minutes into the second half to put CSU up 4-0. The goal came
off a corner kick. Parrish would add her 12th goal of the year in
the 70th minute for a 5-0 lead, this one coming off a nice pass
from Cortney Norris.
Goforth then got into the scoring column just over three minutes
later as she took a feed from Jessica Woodson and blasted it into
the upper right corner for a 6-0 lead. Rachel Walthall added the
final score in the 77th minute off another well-placed cross from
Woodson.
In all, CSU out-shot the Pacers 22-0 on the night. The Lady Cougars
had nine corner kicks in the game to none for USCA, and the Pacers
committed seven fouls to three for CSU in a cleanly played contest.
USC Aiken ends its season at 5-12-1.
