Armstrong Atlantic State Advances Past Lander 3-1

COLUMBUS, Ga. (November 2) – The No. 24-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State women's soccer squad advanced to the 2007 PBC Tournament final with a 3-1 win over Lander on Friday evening in Columbus.

Junior Shana Neves provided the match's only first-half goal, flicking a header past Lander keeper Rachel Hine on a corner kick by Kristin Burton in the 22nd minute.

The Pirates (14-3-1) built a 3-0 lead with two second-half goals, one from Brittany Carr in the 51st minute and one from Burton in the 66th minute to clinch the victory. Lander (13-5) found the back of the net in the 88th minute as Stacy Copeland converted a penalty kick against AASU reserve goalkeeper Samantha Held.

The Pirates owned a 20-6 shot advantage and freshman Tracey Mitchell made four saves in her 77 minutes of action. The match featured 41 fouls called between the two teams and a Lander player received a red card in the 89th minute.

AASU now advances to Sunday's championship match at 2:30 p.m., to face host Columbus State. Last year, CSU and AASU tied 1-1 in the Championship and the Cougars took the title, 4-2, in penalty kicks.
