Nov 2, 2007 Armstrong Atlantic State Advances Past Lander 3-1 COLUMBUS, Ga. (November 2) – The No. 24-ranked Armstrong
Atlantic State women's soccer squad advanced to the 2007 PBC
Tournament final with a 3-1 win over Lander on Friday evening in
Columbus.
Junior Shana Neves provided the match's only first-half goal,
flicking a header past Lander keeper Rachel Hine on a corner kick
by Kristin Burton in the 22nd minute.
The Pirates (14-3-1) built a 3-0 lead with two second-half goals,
one from Brittany Carr in the 51st minute and one from Burton in
the 66th minute to clinch the victory. Lander (13-5) found the back
of the net in the 88th minute as Stacy Copeland converted a penalty
kick against AASU reserve goalkeeper Samantha Held.
The Pirates owned a 20-6 shot advantage and freshman Tracey
Mitchell made four saves in her 77 minutes of action. The match
featured 41 fouls called between the two teams and a Lander player
received a red card in the 89th minute.
AASU now advances to Sunday's championship match at 2:30 p.m., to
face host Columbus State. Last year, CSU and AASU tied 1-1 in the
Championship and the Cougars took the title, 4-2, in penalty kicks.
