2007 Women's Soccer Team Notes (Through Games of Oct. 28)

   Armstrong Atlantic State (12-3-1, 6-1-1) -- The Armstrong Atlantic State women's soccer squad wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference tournament with a 6-0 win over Lander on Saturday afternoon … The Pirates hosted the Bearcats in a matchup of the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the league standings, but this one would be all AASU as two scores in the first eight minutes propelled the home team to the win. Lander would not record a shot in the match’s first 43 minutes and AASU played all three goalkeepers – including giving a start to senior Tarra Kohler – in the shutout win … Kristin Savoy started the scoring in the seventh minute, then Lynsdi Stricklen tallied a goal in her seventh consecutive match in the eighth minute. Kristin Burton halted her own three-match scoreless streak with a goal in the 38th minute, then Kelli Bahr closed out the first-half scoring with a goal in the 44th minute … After halftime, Savoy and Burton would each add goals as the Pirates would outshoot the Bearcats, 24-13, for the match … The shutout was the 10th for the Pirates in the regular season, a new team record … The Pirates will host North Georgia in a first-round PBC Tournament match on Tuesday, October 30, at 2:00 p.m.
   Clayton State (9-5-1, 4-4) -- The Clayton State Lakers have been off for more than a week heading into the start of tonight’s Peach Belt Conference Tournament… The Lakers finished the regular season 9-5-1 overall and 4-4 in the Peach Belt, good for fifth place overall… Clayton State opens Peach Belt Tournament play tonight at 7 p.m. with a quarterfinal showdown at rival Georgia Colllege… When these two teams played at Clayton State two weeks ago, the Bobcats won a 5-4 thriller despite the fact that the Lakers twice came back from two goals down to tie the game… Clayton State senior forward Olaitan Yusuf leads the Peach Belt Conference in goals scored with 20 goals and is second in points scored with 42 points… Yusuf’s Clayton State and Peach Belt career records now stand at 83 goals and 185 points… Yusuf is ranked third in the nation in goals scored and fifth in the nation in points scored… Clayton State head coach T.O. Totty now stands at 94-76-12 in his 10th season at the Laker helm.
   Columbus State (14-3-1, 8-0) -- Columbus State clinched its third consecutive Peach Belt Conference championship - its second out-right - with a 3-0 win over Georgia College & State University Saturday night…Fifth-ranked CSU will host the first round of the PBC Tournament on Tuesday as the top seed, taking on #8 seed USC Aiken at 7 PM at the CSU Soccer Complex…The Lady Cougars are serving as a tournament host for the third time in the program's four years of existence…Kassy Boivin scored two goals and Hannah Ospina added one in the 3-0 win over GCSU…On last Wednesday, CSU routed Georgia Southwestern 12-0 in Americus…Stephanie Parrish scored a hat-trick and K.C. MacEachern added two goals in the decisive win…Parrish leads the club with 10 goals…H. Ospina leads the team in points scored with 22 (9 goals, 4 assists).
   Georgia College & State University (12-4, 5-3) -- The Bobcats shut-out North Georgia Wednesday 4-0 and dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 5 Columbus State Saturday … The team’s 12 victories is a season-best for GCSU … Ten different players have scored their first collegiate goal this season, most recently being Erika Kolodin in the win over North Georgia … Junior Hayley Ferrell has 16 goals this season, snapping the school record of 11 by Meredith Moran in 2005, Ferrell also owns the single-season points mark at 34, eight better than the mark set by Moran in the same year … Ferrell owns the career GCSU records for points (64) and goals (31) despite being in just her junior year … Sophomore Jamie Nevin is tied with seniors Britni Emerson and Emily Norris for the career lead in assists with 11 career helps … GCSU hosts Clayton State Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in the first round of the Peach Belt Tournament.
   Georgia Southwestern (1-17, 0-8) -- The 2007 season came to a merciful end for the Lady Hurricanes on Saturday with a 10-0 loss at North Georgia, their second straight double-digit loss to end the season after falling 12-0 to Columbus State earlier in the week. GSW will not participate in the PBC Tournament as the school is not yet eligible to receive the conference's automatic bid.
  Lander (12-4, 6-2) -- The Lady Bearcats posted their best regular season ever in the 10-year history of the program this year. The Lady Bearcats won a school-record 12 games, breaking the previous record of nine wins set in 1999. Last week Lander defeated North Greenville, 5-0, for its seventh shutout of the season. Against the Lady Crusaders, Aisha Reid and Christin Moss each had one goal and one assist as Lander outshot North Greenville, 27-3. In the Lady Bearcats’ regular-season finale at Armstrong Atlantic, Lander suffered its worst defeat of the season, 6-0.
   UNC Pembroke (12-5-1, 3-4-1) -- With shutout victories over both St. Andrews and USC Aiken on the week, UNCP finished the 2007 season with 12 or more wins for the fourth time in the last five years, while its 10 opponent shutouts was the second-most for the squad in school history. The Braves closed out the home portion of the 2007 slate with an impressive 6-1-1 mark at Varsity Grounds – statistically, the third-best home record in school history (6-1-0 in 2003; 8-0-1 in 2005). Lefke Boysen turned in an assist and UNCP’s second hat trick of the season in a 7-0 no doubter over region rival St. Andrews and followed it up with two more goals in a 3-0 victory over USC Aiken. The No. 6-seeded Braves will play a first round PBC Tournament road game for the second-straight season as they travel to Lander for the postseason gala. UNCP is 1-6-0 all-time in the Peach Belt Tournament, with their lone victory coming against the Bearcats in 2005.
 
 North Georgia (7-8-1, 1-6-1) -- North Georgia fell on the road to Georgia College 4-0, but picked up its first conference win with a 10-0 victory over Georgia Southwestern at home Saturday afternoon. The Lady Saints will take on Armstrong in the first round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament for their first ever NCAA post-season match. The Lady Saints recorded a season high 10 goals against GSW on senior day, scoring seven goals in the first half and finding the back of the net three more times in the second half.

USC Aiken (5-12-1, 1-6-1) -- USC Aiken split two games this past week...On Tuesday the Lady Pacers snapped a four-game losing skid with a 1-0 victory at Coker…Annie Whitley provided the goal, her second of the season, in the 51st minute to break a scoreless tie and also end USCA’s 430-minute scoreless streak…Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Westphal needed to make just two saves in recording her third career shutout…The Lady Pacers played at UNC Pembroke on Saturday and were dealt a 3-0 setback by the Braves…Lefke Boysen scored twice for the hosts, and USCA was shut out for the 11th time this season…With the loss the Lady Pacers fell into a tie for seventh in the PBC with North Georgia, due to losing the tiebreaker are relegated to the eighth seed for the Peach Belt Conference Tournament…USCA plays at top-seeded Columbus State Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
