2008 Women's Soccer Team Notes (Through Games of Nov. 4)
| Armstrong Atlantic State (10-5-3, 4-2-2)
-- The Armstrong Atlantic State women's soccer squad defeated
Lander, 2-0, on Saturday in its regular season finale ... The
Pirates enter the PBC Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will travel
to North Georgia for a Tuesday first-round match at 1 p.m. ...
Brittany Carr and Erin Holt tallied the Pirates' two goals against
the Bearcats in a four-minute span early in the second half ...
Tracey Mitchell notched two saves and recorded her fifth shutout of
the season ... AASU faces the Saints for a second straight year in
PBC Tournament first-round action. Last year, the Pirates edged
North Georgia, 1-0, on a Kristin Burton overtime goal to
advance.

| Clayton State (1-13-2, 1-6-1) -- The
Clayton State Laker women's soccer concluded the 2008 regular
season 1-13-2 overall, and 1-6-1 in the Peach Belt Conference...
The 13 defeats tie the school record for defeats in a season,
shared by the inaugural 1995 Clayton State team... Clayton State
head coach T.O. Totty is in his 11th season at Clayton State, the
longest tenure of any women's head soccer coach in the Peach Belt
Conference... Clayton State will be the eighth-seeded team in the
2008 Peach Belt Conference Tournament, and the Lakers will play at
Columbus State on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

| Columbus State (16-3-1, 7-0-1) -- CSU
captured its fourth straight PBC regular season championship last
week in an 11-0 win over Georgia Southwestern; nine different
players scored goals with Jessica Woodson and Rachel Walthall both
scoring two goals in the blowout win...CSU and GCSU played to a
double overtime scoreless tie on Saturday, snapping CSU's 27-game
PBC regular season winning streak...CSU has posted 13 shutouts on
the season...CSU (16-3-1, 7-0-1) enters the PBC tournament as the
no. 1 seed and will host no. 8 seed Clayton State on Tuesday night
at 7 PM...CSU is searching for its third straight PBC tournament
title.

| GCSU (12-1-4, 5-1-2) -- The Bobcats
picked up a win and a tie this week, beating North Georgia 2-0
Wednesday, and battling No. 4 Columbus State to a 0-0 lockdown ...
The shutouts give the team a single-season school record of 12 on
the year ... The Bobcats also set a school record with 46 shots
against Georgia Southwestern Oct. 7 ... Georgia College made its
way into the NSCAA National Rankings for the first time in program
history this season, now standing at No. 21 ... The Bobcats host
the second playoff game in program history today, when Lander comes
to town for a 7 p.m. start ... The Bobcats are 1-4 all-time in the
PBC Playoffs, and 2-1-2 all-time against Lander after the 1-0 win
at home earlier this season. The Bobcats have never been beaten at
home in the PBC Tournament.

| Georgia Southwestern (5-14-1, 0-7-1) --
The Lady Hurricanes went 0-2 last week, falling at No. 4 Columbus
State 11-0 on Wednesday evening before dropping the season finale
8-0 at home on Saturday to North Georgia. The Lady Hurricanes were
outshot 75-8 over the two contests and faced a 23-0 corner kick
disadvantage. The team’s lone senior, goalkeeper Lindsey
Richardson, had 20 saves. While it was a rough week, GSW finished
2008 with several highs, including the most wins (5), goals (23)
and assists (14) in a season in the five-year history of the
program.

| Lander (6-8-1, 1-5-1) -- The Lady Bearcats
completed the regular season last week with identical 2-0 losses to
Newberry College and Armstrong Atlantic State University. The
sixth-seeded Bearcats will travel to third-seeded Georgia College
& State University on Nov. 4 for the first round of the Peach
Belt Conference tournament. Earlier in the season, Lander lost to
the Bobcats, 1-0, in Milledgeville.

| UNC Pembroke (16-1-1, 6-1-1) -- After
recording shutouts over Chowan (4-0) and USC Aiken (2-0), the Lady
Braves secured a second place finish in the Peach Belt, its highest
finish in program history. With a 16-1-1 record, the squad has
broken or tied five school records with the possibility of toppling
one more. The UNCP features a defense that ranked seventh in the
nation in shutouts (13 of 18) and 13th in goals against average,
rankings obtained due to the efforts of senior Whitney Beverly who
has played every minute in the net this season. Melanie Cobb leads
the Lady Braves in scoring with totals of 18 goals, 10 assists and
46 points on 100 shots, more than half of which have been on goal.
Next, the Lady Braves look to storm the PBC Tournament Tuesday
night when they host USC Aiken to Varsity Grounds.

| North Georgia (8-6-2, 5-3) -- The Lady
Saints closed out their regular season in style, blanking Georgia
Southwestern 8-0 to clinch a home game in the first-round of the
PBC Tournament. North Georgia also dropped 2-0 decision to GCSU
earlier in the week, setting up the must win on the road in the
season finale. The Lady Saints scored five first-half goals against
the Hurricanes Saturday afternoon as Lauren Schenk and Katie Turner
scored two goals apiece and each added an assist. North Georgia
will be the 4th seed heading into the PBC Tournament and will host
5th seed Armstrong Atlantic State University in what should be an
exciting first-round match up.

| USC Aiken (3-14-2, 1-6-1) -- The
Lady Pacers went 0-2 last week with losses at Belmont Abbey and a
home loss to UNC Pembroke to end the regular season. USCA was held
scoreless in both contests and have not scored a goal in any of the
five games of their current losing streak. The Lady Pacers are the
#7 seed for the PBC Tournament and will have to turn right around
and face UNC Pembroke again, this time in North Carolina at 7:00.
