Three PBC Women’s Soccer Teams Advance to NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, IND – Three Peach Belt Conference women's soccer teams learned that their seasons will continue as the NCAA announced the 56-team field for the national championship on Monday.  Columbus State will be the #1 seed for the southeast regional while Lander is the #3 seed and Flagler the #4.  Tournament play begins this Friday.

The Lady Cougars will have a bye in the opening round of the tournament by virtue of the top seed. CSU will host fourth-seeded Flagler and fifth-seeded Limestone for a Friday match at 2 p.m., with the Lady Cougars playing the winner on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Walden Soccer Complex.

Flagler (11-3-2) and Limestone last met nearly a year ago (Nov. 10, 2017) in the same location. Flagler won 3-0 before falling to Columbus State University by the same score in the second round. Flagler has won all four of the previous meetings.

Second-seeded Carson-Newman will host the other half of the Southeast Region. CN will play seventh-seeded Catawba, while third-seeded Lander matches up against sixth-seeded Lincoln Memorial.

Columbus State (16-0-2) is in the NCAA Tournament for the 13th straight season, making the field in every year since 2006. CSU is the top seed for the third time in the last five seasons.

The Lady Cougars won their sixth straight Peach Belt Conference regular season championship and followed it up with a tournament championship on Sunday.

Coming off its best regular-season conference finish in program history, the Lander women's soccer team continued its historic season as the Bearcats were selected to their first ever NCAA Tournament.

The Bearcats (12-2-2) will travel to Jefferson City, Tenn., to play sixth-seeded Lincoln Memorial (14-4) in the quarterfinals.

Lander notched its highest win total since 2013, while going unbeaten at home for the first time in program history. Four Bearcats earned all-Peach Belt Conference honors as the Bearcats finished second in the league.
