Armstrong Atlantic State Tennis Teams Continue Unbeaten Streak Against Top 5

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Playing in its second dual match against top five ranked opponents in five days, the Armstrong Atlantic State tennis teams swept Wednesday's dual match at Valdosta State to remain undefeated on the 2008 season. The No. 4-ranked AASU men knocked off the No. 2-ranked Valdosta State Blazers, 6-3, while the No. 2-ranked Lady Pirates defeated the No. 3-ranked Lady Blazers, 7-2, following up Saturday's wins over the top-ranked Lynn men and the No. 4-ranked Lynn women.

The Pirate men (10-0) took two of three doubles matches, then won four of six singles matches in handing the Blazers (4-1) their first loss of the season. PBC Player of the Week Tim Johannsen defeated No. 3-ranked Florian Halb, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 1 singles to pace AASU. Paul Bishop knocked off Richard Malobicky, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 4 singles, while Christian Bergh defeated Otto Lenhart, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5 singles and Davor Zink beat Benjamin Cattan, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 6 singles.

The Lady Pirates (9-0) ran their consecutive regular season match win streak to 99 with the win over the Lady Blazers (3-2) by sweeping all three doubles matches, then picking up wins in four of six singles matches. Three-time PBC Player of the Week Iuliia Stupak defeated No. 8-ranked Dominique Roethlander, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, while No. 2-ranked Johanna Dahlback knocked off No. 4-ranked Raphaelle Durante, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. No. 7-ranked Alida Muller-Wehlau beat Tina Trautmann, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 3 singles and No. 37-ranked Martina Beckmann picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over No. 41-ranked Karine Radon at No. 6 singles.

Both teams return to action on Saturday with a Peach Belt Conference dual match against Lander, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the AASU Tennis Complex.
