Peach Belt Releases Women's Tennis Preseason All-Conference Team

AUGUSTA, GA -- The Peach Belt Conference has announced the 2012 women's tennis preseason All-Conference team from the league office in Augusta.  Six players were named to the team representing three Peach Belt schools.  Eight-time defending PBC CHampions Armstrong Atlantic State lead the way with three players on the team while Francis Marion has two and Clayton State one.  The league's 13 head coaches selected the team but were not permitted to vote for their own players.

Armstrong's Barbora Krtickova was named an ITA All-American in both singles and doubles following the 2011 season.  The ITA National Rookie of the Year and PBC Freshman of the Year, the native of Nove Mesto Nad Metuji, Czech Republic, returns for her sophomore season after going 22-2 in dual match singles play.  She was 11-0 against conference opponents, playing mainly at #2 singles.  She finished 2011 ranked #11 in the nation in singles and #1 in doubles and was named PBC All-Conference in both singles and doubles.

Aleksandra Filipovski was also named an ITA All-American for Armstrong in 2011.  A returning sophomore from Szeged, Hungary, she was named PBC All-Conference in singles after going 24-2 in dual matches in the spring of 2011 with a 13-0 mark at #3 singles and 9-2 at #2.  Ranked #12 in the nation at the end of the year she was a two-time PBC Player of the Week.

Kathleen Henry returns for her senior season at Armstrong.  The native of Anderson, S.C., was named PBC All-Conference in doubles in 2011 with her and doubles partner Tina Ronel ranked #18 in the nation.  A PBC Player of the Week and PBC All-Academic selection, Henry brings a career 96-12 singles record into her senior year.

Jikta Gavdunova was named PBC first-team All-Conference and an ITA All-American in 2011.  A returning senior from Vejprty, Czech Republic, she was 15-1 at #1 singles for the Patriots in 2011 and 12-4 at #1 doubles.  Gavdunova was ranked as high as #16 in the nation in 2011 and begins 2012 tied at #9 nationally in singles.

Gavdunova’s teammate and doubles partner Mona Blauen was named first-team All-Conference in doubles last year and second team as a singles player.  Returning for her junior year, the native of Cologne, Germany, was 13-2 at #2 singles last season, 10-2 against PBC opponents.  Blauen is currently the 20th-ranked singles player in the nation and her doubles team with Gavdunova is ranked 11th.
