USC Aiken Volleyball Inks Two
AIKEN, S.C. – University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball head coach Glenn Cox announced the signing of two prep student-athletes to a National-Letter-of-Intent on Monday, Nov. 21.
The two incoming Pacers for the 2012 volleyball season are Victoria Day and Alyssa Johnson.
“We are excited to have signed these two talented players,” noted Cox. “I am counting down the days until the start of next season already.”
Day joins USC Aiken out Crystal Lake Central High School in Crystal Lake, Ill.
An outside hitter, Day and Crystal Lake Central won their region this past season. For her efforts, Day was chosen All-Conference. She also received the Coaches’ Award and was named Most Valuable Player.
This season, Day has compiled 207 digs, 119 kills and 60 service aces.
“Victoria is a solid, multi-dimensional player who will immediately compete for playing time in the coming season,” remarked Cox. “Sky High, her junior Olympic club, produces a ton of well trained prospects. As a club, they have earned their share of club tournament championships.”
Johnson comes to Aiken out of Apple Valley High School in Apple Valley, Minn.
A middle, Johnson is a two-year team captain for Apple Valley. In three years as a member of the varsity team, Johnson has compiled 178 blocks. She has 469 kills and 107 digs in her prep career.
Johnson is equally as adept in the classroom where she has been a member of the A Honor Roll since her freshman year. She is a member of the National Honors Society.
Aly will bring some size and offense to our middle hitting position,” said Cox. “Aly’s club team, Northern Lights, is the top club in that area and has established itself as one of the premier clubs in the country.”
The duo join a USC Aiken volleyball team that concluded the regular season ranked 10th in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Poll.
The Pacers finished the 2011 season with a 15-16 record. USC Aiken concluded its year tied for third in the Peach Belt Conference with a record of 7-7.
