YHC's Wall, USCA's Koumas, Flagler's Evans Named Baseball AstroTurf Players of the Week

Baseball Player of the Week:  Zach Wall, Young Harris

Wall was putting the ball over it in four games last week, hitting three home runs while batting .571.  In a three-game set with GRU, he hit .700 with all three homers and all eight of his RBIs.  He opened up a perfect 4-for-4 with two home runs, four RBIs and three runs scored in a 9-8 win over Jaguars, then hit a grand slam in the Mountain Lions’ 8-2 win in game two.  He went 2-for-3 in the finale with another run scored, giving him eight on the week.  He also drew three walks for a .684 on-base percentage and had a 1.286 slugging percentage.  He made only one error in the field at third in 18 total chances with 12 assists and five put-outs.  Wall is currently tied for fourth in the PBC in home runs, is 8th in RBIs and 14th in total bases.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Forrest Koumas, USC Aiken

Koumas tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout against Georgia Southwestern, setting a new USCA school record with 18 strikeouts.  The senior from Lugoff, S.C., was just one K away from tying the PBC record and becomes only the fourth pitcher to have 18 or more strikeouts in PBC history and the first to do so since 2003.  He gave up all his hits and lone walk by the fourth inning and retired the next 10 batters in a row.  He struck out the side in the sixth and eighth and five of the final six GSW batters were retired on strikeouts.  Koumas is second in the PBC in strikeouts this season.

Baseball Freshman of the Week: Bryce Evans, Flagler

Evans batted .385 last week to help No. 11 Flagler to a 4-0 record. The freshman from Savannah, Ga., collected five hits, including one double, drove in three runs and scored two more. Was perfect in the field on seven total chances. Had an RBI-single in Flagler's five-run uprising to wipe out a UNCP lead in a 7-5 win. Had a single, a double and scored two runs in the Saints' 18-5 win over the Braves. Had a pair of RBI-singles in Sunday's 3-2 win, the last hit scored the go-ahead run in the fourth.
