CSU Third, YHC Fifth at Coker Invitational
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Columbus State University women's golf team moved up to a third place finish at the Coker Women's Invitational Tuesday. The two-day event was played at the Hartsville Country Club.
Sitting in fifth place after the opening round, the Lady Cougars turned in a 314 on the day to move themselves up to a tie with Barton College for third place in the 14-team tournament. Anderson (616) came away with the team win while the host school Coker (619) finished in second. There was a sizable ten-stroke gap between Columbus State (630) and the fifth place team in Young Harris (640).
Monica Ruiz Pavon was the top scorer for the Lady Cougars through the two-day tournament turning in an overall 154. The sophomore finished with a team best 75 in the second round to shoot herself up from 20th overall to a seventh place finish.
The top scorer for CSU in the opening round, Hannah Holland shot a 10-over 82 as she carded a 15-over 159. That was good enough for 16th place individually for the tournament.
Victoria Libaak bounced back for Columbus State firing a 78, a full four shots better than her opening round. She entered the clubhouse with a 16-over 160 to put her a tie for 20th, giving the Lady Cougars three top-20 individual finishes.
Anna Meleshkina also improved four shots from her previous round, putting up a 7-over 79 on the day. Her 162 for the tournament put her just two shots from a top-20 finish, as she exited the tournament in 30th place.
Kayla Poff was the drop score for CSU in the final round, shooting an 89 to give her a 167, good for 42nd place.
The Mountain Lions posted a 328 in the final round of the par 72, 5,828-yard layout on the Hartsville Country Club to complete the 36-hole event at 640 for a fifth place finish.
Hannah Walker picked up a top-10 finish as she shot 78 in the final round and finished tied for seventh place with a score of 154. Emma Andersson finished tied for 11th at 156 after carding a final round 82. Emma Agermo shot an 82 and tied for 34th place, while Peyton Rich shot 84 and tied for 38th and 166. Savannah Rainbolt also shot an 84 and finished tied for 51st with a 169.
Women's golf finishes 16th at Terrier Intercollegiate
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Lander women's golf team placed 16th at the Terrier Intercollegiate at the par 72, 5,836-yard course at the North-Moss Creek Golf Club on Sunday.
Lander shot a 334 on Sunday, 16 strokes lower than its Saturday effort. Hannah Fespermanfired a 79 on Sunday, the Bearcats' best round of the event, to tie for 61st. Hannah Stephenson finished in a tie for 67th, while Caroline Hardee tied for 83rd. Madison Jordanfinished 87th and Caroline Jenkins placed 93rd.
The Bearcats are back in action April 1 as Lander hosts the Bearcat Invitational.
